Produce companies like Dole and Del Monte have been developing pink pineapples for 12 years, and they're finally here. The soft blush pineapples are FDA-approved; however, they're labeled as genetically modified (GMO) since food scientists had to increase their lycopene, a bright red carotenoid pigment and phytochemical found in tomatoes and other red fruits and vegetables.
